Plastikman: Electric Zoo Spotlight

Plastikman is none other than Richie Hawtin, the well renown techno producer.  Except he is hidden from the public and exhibits his experimental studio side of himself from behind an electronic wall of lights.  As Hawtin himself had explained in interviews, “Richie Hawtin” is the DJ that parties on stage, drinks with the crowd, and plays with the crowd.  Plastikman (Live) is himself in the studio transplanted onstage – but not to rage with his fans, only to delve deeper in his own world.  Looking at the images of him playing behind this electronic wall as this bent over figure hastily creating interesting sounds, I can see how appropriate his logo is for the name. So for now my advice would be to calm down about Hurricane Irene (I’ve lived through actual hurricanes in the tropics, they need warm water to survive, we’re all going to be okay) and take a listen to what Plastikman has to play.  Watch, while you’re listening this will all blow over as a tropical depression.

Check out this interview with him, it’s really good. Watching him really does command respect for him as an artist who’s been on the scene for a very long time.
