The Unknown Father of French House

When most people think of electronic music, the first thought that comes to mind is Daft Punk, the notorious french house duo of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo.  Both transformed the landscape of electronic music forever, together as Daft Punk and separately as notable solo producers.  Thomas Bangalter specifically put out a number of tracks under his own name with another artist by the name of Stéphane Quême, otherwise known as DJ Falcon.  Born in France, Falcon worked for the A&R department at Virgin Records until he started producing in 1999 and released his first track, a remix of Cassius’ “La Mouche” .  In 2000 he teamed up with Thomas Bangalter to form the duo “Together“, which released two now classic French House tracks.  Alongside Banglter he released 4 tracks, 2 under Together and 2 as a duo, as well as multiple solo tracks, which are still dropped to this day to the delight of avid house fans.  ”So Much Love To Give”, one of Together’s biggest tracks, is now a staple of Avicii‘s festival and club sets.  Falcon’s tracks have been incredibly influential for many DJ’s but his songs are mostly unknown to typical house listeners.  Many of the tracks that he and Bangalter produced were mainly released on vinyl and aren’t widely available on Beatport or file hosting websites.  Below are some of DJ Falcon’s long lost gems that I’ve managed to pick up scouring the internet.  His style is as classic and pure as it comes, true old school French House made from R&B samples.

Untitled-DJ Falcon A very loungy sounding house track, Untitled lays down some groovy beats that are great to set the mood for the beginning of any fun night out.

Honeymoon-Dj Falcon Honeymoon actually samples two tracks, an old Natalie Cole track as well as parts of Serious Intention’s “Serious”.  It’s a great laidback, filter house sounding track that kicks in with some great horns and reminds me of classic Jackson 5.

Honeymoon (Louis La Roche Modernized Edit)-DJ Falcon Just a little extra remix thrown in here.  Louis La Roche is actually a London born producer that has an incredibly french feeling sound.  He’s one of my favorite underground producers and does a great job cleaning up the long repetitive sampling of the track, very common in french house.

Unplugged-DJ Falcon Unplugged is a very unique sounding track.  Best way to describe this cut is melodic guitar mixed with classic hi-hat driven house drums.

So Much Love To Give-Together Probably one of the most uplifting, happy tracks I’ve ever heard.  As mentioned above, Avicii’s played it all 3 times I have seen him.  Classic french house structure with feel good lyrics makes for an unbeatable track combination.

Together-Together Together opens with a line from the opening monologue of Pleasantville that ends in the title of both the song and group.  A funky bassline drives an all time classic from Bangalter and Falcon.

High Again (On Emotion)-DJ Falcon & Thomas Falke I actually came across High Again by mistake while I was looking through Falcon tracks on youtube.  Thomas Falke, cousin of french house producer Fred Falke, teams up with Falcon to deliver another uplifting filter house anthem of pure happiness.
