It’s seems like everywhere you turn, everyone has been bit by the house bug centered around the Swedish DJ, Tim Bergling – more popularly know as Tim Berg and/or Avicii.  On the ground, in the news and all over social media channels – the Avicii craze is spreading.

Currently on tour, Avicii landed in Los Angeles this week to play two sold out shows at The Music Box in Hollywood.  I was fortunate enough to attend last night’s performance and witness the 21-year-old prodigy that is Avicii.

Carmageddon could not keep this crowd away. With some concert goers on round two, attending both Thursday and Friday’s show, everyone was in awe. Including the mastermind himself who tweeted this morning, “Wow that was at another level…”

And it was.

The night was full of energy and talent.

I was lucky enough to meet and chat briefly with 19-year-old Swedish producer, Fareoh.

Fareoh has managed to stand alone as an up-and-coming DJ, opening strong for Avicii during his 2011 tour. With his skill, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Fareoh headlining along side Avicii in less than a year.

But as Avicii leads in the rise to fame, it’s not all passionate fans and sold out shows – he will be faced with controversy and unfortunately, already has been.

Aside from yesterday being an incredible stop in LA, it was also the day Avicii heard Leona Lewis’ newest single, “Collide“ – a new release from the British singer that samples the DJ’s hit track “Penguin” – without his knowledge.

Shocked by the news, Avicii took to his Twitter:

“To answer everyone, the first time i heard leona lewis collide was today. I didnt produce it and neither me or my manager could approve it”

Many Avicii fans are calling plagiarism, but Leona’s camp has fired back saying Tim Berg (Avicii) is mentioned in the credits therefore accusations of plagiarism are false.

Addressing this matter with admirable composure, Avicii made it very clear via Twitter yesterday that he had nothing to do with the production:

“To be clear im not taking credit for the melody (everything was cleared with penguin cafe orchestra and simon jeffes who wrote the song)

Im just upset for someone taking credit of our idea before i had a chance to release it

And for the time and effort that has been put into this by my manager and label”

Ministry of Sound, the label behind the Avicii’s “Penguin”, is demanding Lewis’ track be pulled from airwaves before it’s full release.

Whatever the outcome of this dispute may be, it’s clear the people are on the side of the Swede with blogs and tweets agreeing that Leona’s new track is indeed a rip-off of Avicii’s “Penguin”.

Avicii continues his 2011 tour strong, playing tonight at the Global Dance Festival in Colorado.

If you have the chance to go see Avicii live – GO.  Sooner or later tickets will be hard to come by – with prices rising and shows selling out faster than you can click “purchase”.
