Electric Beach Cosmic Opera after party

Our friends at Santos Party House are doing it again with their Electric Beach series. Each weekend they’ve been bringing in EDM talent and this weekend is no different.

Cosmic Opera may be this weekend but we all know it’s hard to just stop dancing then. Saturday head on downtown afterwards for an allstar line up. Peacetreaty is headlining the night and let me tell you they’ve been bringing down the bass way before even Hardwell stepped onto the scene. They have some of my favorite progressive tracks and all of them have the guts to go hard. Get ready to dance hard because they’re bringing the bass and the heat.

Joining them will be NO_ID, a duo making waves from Amsterdam. They’re making waves big enough to open for Axwell at Cosmic Opera before heading down to Lafayette st. They have Axwell’s support on Axtone as well as other major players in the European EDM scene ranging from Sander van Doorn, Tiesto, and Mark Knight. Need I say more?

Opening will be Jared Berkey and Steven Lee.

Be sure to get there early because Cosmic Opera or not, Santos definitely fills up fast. There hasn’t been a weekend that it hasn’t.

The Australian output “In My Mind” has finally emerged from the deep synapses of euphoria as perhaps one of the biggest tracks of 2012. I know it’s quite the bold statement considering we’re only a month into 2012, but once you give it a listen I’m certain that we’ll be on the same frequency. This month was quite the mega with releases such as Quintino’s “We Gonna Rock”, Dirty South & Thomas Gold’s “Eyes Wide Open”, Tommy Trash’s “Cascade” and Hardwell’s “Spaceman” (I’ll get caught up on here eventually), but I think we can agree that this is the January finale we are all looking forward to! Released through Axwell’s prestigious imprint Axtone and with the aid of Aussie indie pop singer Georgi Kay, the Australian duo Feenixpawl and their compatriot Ivan Gough (one-half of TV Rock) have set the bar incredibly high with this uplifting progressive offering. It probably helped that Axwell, the King Midas of remixing, incorporated some of his magic into the track as well.

We start off with a common clapping progression that soon evolves into a tranquil (but still bigroom) atmosphere created by some softer melodies and Georgi Kay’s emotive vocals, of which lays the groundwork for the rest of the track. Debilitated and heartened by Georgi Kay’s voice, the drop soon bursts to energize us with sheer bliss in its synth lead and crisp bassline. Is it me or does the piano breakdown that follows (3:22 in) remind you of Coldplay’s “Clocks”? Also, there are a few parts of the track that remind me of Dirty South’s “Walking Alone” as well. An anthem indeed, it will be incredibly hard to dethrone this face-melting 2012 contender for months to come. I’m going to make a guess and say that Thomas Gold’s “Sing 2 Me“, Arty and Matisse & Sadko’s “Trio“, Qulinez’s “Troll” and Otto Know’s “Million Voices” might be worthy competitors. And no, I did not mention Avicii because he’s not doing anything that we haven’t seen from him already.

The amounts of joy brought upon from listening to this track is proportional to the volume on your speakers!

The unreleased mixes for Tim Berg‘s legendary “Bromance” have just been released under PinkStar on Beatport (USA) that includes remixes by Cazette & Ash, Samuele Sartini and Bimbo Jones . Although most, if not all of you have the vocal mix, here’s the officially released cut. I posted Cazette and Ash’s take on Seek Bromance on another post earlier this week but this official release seems to be longer and better. Also I got two more Avicii related smashers for weekend crushing. The first is a track called “Morphine” and it seems be a Avicii’s work. I can’t promise you that it is but it sounds identical to Avicii’s filtered synth style.

The second track is a stellar remix to fan favorite “Penguin” by this Swiss producer named Janski and who is currently stationed in NYC. His style can be characterized as a cross-over between Disfunktion’s uplifting synths and Avicii’s happy hits and house piano strings (think something like ‘Blessed’). If you like what you hear (you will), check out his latest original track ‘Expressed’ which was released last week on Beatport.

Calvin Harris – Feel So Close (Radio Edit) “Feel So Close” is Calvin Harris’ latest single which is yet to be released but you can see the official video here. It’s expected to drop in the UK August 21st along with remixes by Nero, Benny Benassi and Dillon Francis. This track takes on a different form than “Awooga” and “Bounce” but in a good way–with a relaxed electro atmosphere delivered by Harris’ carefree vocals that really reminds me of The Killers.

Avicii – Fade Into Darkness (Vocal Club Mix) Although unavailable for purchase on Beatport in the US, here’s the extended vocal club mix of “Fade Into Darkness” (formerly known as “Penguin”) which has already been sampled by Leona Lewis without his permission. It really bums me out that she did that before Avicii had the chance to officially release it in the US. Her ass is going down. Please support Avicii and buy this treasure when it drops here in Amurrica!

Avicii – Levels (Clockwork Remix) “Levels” is already in the books as one of Avicii’s most original sounding tracks with it’s contagious feel-good hum-along melodies and its overall blissful musical mastery. Here’s a remix by Clockwork, who rocked out a straight silly remix to Maximum Balloon & Theophilus London’s “Groove Me”. It maintains that run from the original summer anthem but adds in a crispy bass-heavy drop.

Swedish House Mafia – Save The World (AN21 & Max Vangeli Remix) Another quality remix of Swedish House Mafia’s summery sing-along anthem “Save the World” to add your Fuego playlist. I’m a huge fan of the bass-heavy lounge infused progression and valiant build that seamlessly meshes with John Martin’s vocals. A wonderfully crafted remix that puts itself at the near top. Let’s see what Zedd can do about it.

Laidback Luke – Natural Disaster (Instrumental Extended Mix) The enigmatic Laidback Luke has been on a straight tear with a legendary performance on Governor’s Island, a killer”All of the Lights” remix and the respectable “Speak Up (Instrumental Mix).” To no surprise, this track is a chaotic yet beautiful natural disaster with an epic piano build and high octane drop!

Afrojack – Bangduck (Moguai Remix) “Bangduck” was definitely one of my favorite tracks by Afrojack back when I dove head-first into the house scene. Moguai gets weird and creative on this rejuvenated duck.

Moby – Lie Down In Darkness (Arno Cost Remix) Happy and mystical vibes all around from Arno Cost’s dreamy remix to Moby’s “Lie Down In Darkness.”

Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Nervo – The Way We See The World (Tomorrowland Anthem Instrumental) This is one summer smashing anthem by an unexpected collaboration. It’s all Afrojack for the first build then you can clearly see where the others chyme in on that nasty big room drop!

Axwell – Heart Is King (DBN Remix) I have been patiently waiting for a legit remix to Axwell’s “Heart Is King” and have finally gotten some bites. Between this and the ATB & Josh Gallahan remix, DBN’s had a bit more body with harder hitting tempo. I’m going to make a prediction right now in hope that Alesso drops a remix to this track that will massacre my ear drums.

Workout Wednesdays: In the Zone

First, if you like what you see above, then you should definitely “like” my close friend Natalia Lalonde’s fanpage on facebook. Meanwhile, get in the zone during your workout because this progressive house/big room selection will make you feel HOT and BOTHERED! The melodic progressive builds are key to getting into a zone and rhythm while the epic drops power you through with short bursts of energy. For working out, I prefer most of my music to have minimal vocals and a constant rhythm. If there are lyrics, then I prefer them to be from a softer female singer. As you will see, the vocals for infectious anthem “Teenage Crime” have been beautifully crafted to majestically amalgamate with one of the most epic and emotional mind excursions in EDM.

Norman Doray, Sebastien Drums & Tim Berg – Tweet It This smasher is pivotal for starting your workout. It’s a nice little warm-up to say the least — those signature Avicii synths followed by the heavy bass get me everytime, FUEGS on FUEGS!

Little Boots – Remedy (Avicii Club Remix) English electro-pop star Little Boots provides us with soft, youthful, and yet propelling vocals for a good workout. Oh and of course, it’s remixed by some guy named Avicii, he’s kind of good.

Lissat & Voltaxx – Droid (D.O.N.S. Remix) This awesome track literally makes me feel like an overzealous Crussian droid from the year 3500. Sick drop with a superhuman feel, DROID DROID DROID!

Hardwell & Franky Rizardo – Asteroid (Original Mix) By far one of my favorite Hardwell tracks — big drops and a constant source for energy.

EDX – Szeplo This track is also up there for one of my favorites. EDX mindfully calculated this smasher to perfection with it’s ridiculously fluid rhythm and vast array of different sounding house elements that range from a deep blow horn to dreamy synths.

Adrian Lux – Teenage Crime (Axwell & Henrik B Remode) With Axwell’s finishing touches, this track has ‘peak-time smasher’ written all over it. It’s an upbeat progression from the get-go with looping teasing synths that culminate into a euphoric delirium. FUEGO.

Deadmau5 & Kaskade feat. Haley – I Remember (Vocal Mix) This works perfectly at the post-climax of your workout to keep you in a rhythm for a strong finish. Arguably Deadmau5‘s best work, the addition of Kaskade and Haley make this some of the best 10 minutes I’ve ever heard.

Gregor Salto & Laidback Luke – Step By Step (Big Room Mix) The name speaks for itself, Laidback Luke & Gregor Salto’s BIGROOM bomb! I could listen to Mavis Acquah‘s sumptuous voice any day, I hope to see some big collaborations with her this year.

Nanchang Nancy & Prok & Fitch – Walk With Me (Axwell vs. Daddy’s Groove Remix) Ah, there is so much heat packed behind this Axwell & Daddy’s Groove classic. This 2010 early summer anthem definitely has hypnotizing tempo with goosebump-inducing synths and soulful vocals.

Louie Vega & Jay ‘Sinister’ Sealee – Diamond Life feat. Julie McKnight (Daddy’s Groove Magic Island Rework) Welcome to the Diamond Life because I’m taking it to the clubs now. Julie McKnight’s mysterious and metaphysical vocals followed by two beautifully distinct drops (3:31 and 4:30) by Daddy’s Groove make this one of the most underrated tracks of 2010.

Gareth Emery & Above & Beyond pres. OceanLab – On A Good Day (Metropolis) – Extended Mix I’m not a huge trancehead but this is by far the best trance song I’ve ever heard. It’s everything about this song, like Justine Suissa’s fervent and tantalizing vocals that enable for such a strong connection with it’s listeners.

Taken from their soundcloud: “We always knew this was a special record, but the fans’ connection with its message and meaning has given it a life of its own in many ways. It really is a record that refuses to go away”, says Above & Beyond’s Tony McGuinness. OceanLab’s ‘On A Good Day’ originally featured on the 2008 LP ‘Sirens Of The Sea’, an album that reached #1 in the US iTunes dance chart, and was lauded in respected publications such as Mixmag and DJ Magazine. ‘On A Good Day’ remained a firm favorite in the sets of Above & Beyond – eventually receiving another lease of life when its vocals were married with Gareth Emery’s ‘Metropolis’ as a DJ bootleg by Hungarian duo Myon & Shane 54.

Virtually unchallenged by no one, Kaskade has been the king of mashups. His ability to morph a plethora of extremely different sounds together makes the thought of a morphing into werewolf plausible. These two tracks show how talented this mashup god really is. “Falling in Love With Brazil” is by far one of my favorites with Haley’s sexy vocals and the bangin’ progressive beats. His take on “Angel on my Shoulder Reaver 76″ demonstrates a more aggressive Kaskade as it is packed with massive drops.

The bomb has dropped, Swedish House Mafia‘s “Save The World” featuring fellow Swede singer John Martin. Crowd pleaser, radio smasher, whatever you call it — it’s an unbelievable track and undeniably 2011′s anthem. Far from their characteristic monstrous drops and electrifying eye-opening synths that charge your muscles with limitless bouts of energy (“One” and “Miami 2 Ibiza“), “Save The World” is refreshing and extraordinarily simple. Its rock inspired synths and melodies, metaphysical yet mystifying vocals, and enchanting yet ever-addicting hooks will indeed put you in a better state of mind. You will catch yourself singing along “Oh oo Oh Oh, Oh oo Oh Oh, Oh oo uh uh Ohhh!” At a show I went to in Detroit, Axwell said they were going to make a real hard push for radio play, so whether you’re down with that or not, please make sure to support SHM on release day (with the US being last May 17th) by buying their single on iTunes (preorder on iTunes here) or Beatport. It will most likely be 1.50$ on iTunes and 2.50$ on beatport due its incomparable sound quality (I highly recommend).

Axwell’s take on the track:

“I think a good thing is always to leave what you did there and start fresh,” he said. “Like with ‘Save the World,’ for example. It’s not the ‘One’ rip-off, it’s not the ‘Miami 2 Ibiza’ rip-off, it’s just something new. It seems like it’s what people want to hear.”

“We’ll have some duplication of the other [classic tracks],” Axwell explained, “[but] there’s a lot of music coming out [that sounds] similar. It’s nice to sort of break away from that a little bit, and we went completely the opposite way — like to indie dance, rock-inspired stuff. So, we just want to keep it fresh and interesting all the time.”

Finally, Swedish House Mafia unleashed their third single, “Save The World Tonight”, on Pete Tongs BBC Radio 1. It features an overall happy melody rather than their intense hard hitting, and has very impressive vocals by Swedish singer John Martin. Since this is a radio rip and for the sake of house music, please be sure to support them and buy it on Beatport as soon as it drops. It would be greatly appreciated by them, as Axwell stated last night during his UNREAL show last night at Bleu nightclub in Detroit (expect a post about his show as well). Axwell had also said he hopes that we can all hear it on the radio soon, so obviously SHM’s direction is mainstream. With these memorizing vocals and glorious harmony, there’s no doubt that this track will make to mainstream (though I have mixed feelings about it).

It seems like ages since I’ve felt Hardwell‘s presence, a month or two seems like a decade in house years. Originally aired on Sirius XM’s Electric Area a week ago, Hardwell On Air was availible for download to the first 100 people visiting his soundcloud. But being the little stinkers we are, it’s availible for your download now. Dutch producer Hardwell and founder of Revealed Recordings has had a hell of the year already, with “Zero 76” and “Who Dat Girl (Remix)” destroying dancefloors and causing eargasms on a routine basis. A notable highlight from the mix has to a flawless transition between the electro bangers “Sexx” to Michael Brun’s “Awooga” remix (exclusively availible only on STS). This April playlist has a perfect balance that flirts with all sub-genres of EDM.

Let’s start off right with Hardnasty’s latest remix to Alex Gaudino’s megabanger “What A Feeling” featuring Kelly Rowland. It starts off with those happy Gaudino vibes but then you begin to feel Hardwell’s forecast of nasty drops & clubby bumps.

Tracklisting and thoughts:

1) Nu-Gen – Mopho (Hatiras Remix) Hardwell couldn’t have picked a better song to start out with. Toronto native and remix specialist, Hatiras, triggers those endorphins and has those hard electro-house synths to warm you up the right way.

2) Funkagenda – Splinter (Original Club Mix) This song is one my favorites on the mix – and onces it gets going, you will find yourself in a groove. It’s mad clubby and very progressive to start but midway through it’s sheer energy. Very Hardwell’esqe, which explains why he selected it!

3) Axwell – Heart Is King (Original Mix) Previously posted when it was released last week. I’m going to be honest, it’s still growing on me and I’m still waiting for someone (Daddy’s Groove please) to turn it into fuego.

4) Daddy’s Groove & Little Mark – We Are In Da House (Original Mix) Italian trio Daddy’s Groove drops another dope track that has also received heavy support from Steve Angello (played during his SIZE matters performances and was selected on his beatport chart last month). This jam has a consistent club hop with that funny dude yelling “Whos in the house?”, reminiscent of Chuckie’s Chris Kaiser remix.

5) Sander Van Doorn – Love Is Darkness ft. Carol Lee (Basto’s Bigroom Baby Mix) Sander Van Doorn’s “Love is Darkness” (check out our recent post here) is one of those tracks depicting this emerging genre of “Trouse” (coined by Tiesto), which is consists of the trance style synths and the hard-hitting house drops. Basto however, steps it up to a whole new level and makes this the best track on the mix. It has that Big room feel and a relentlessly energizing drop, making it one of my favorite drops of the year.

6) Style of Eye – Sexx (Original Mix) The Stockholm born and based DJ/producer Style of Eye is making a name for himself in techno, but his productions are essentially a journey through everything from techno to house via raw percussion and minimal, floaty melodies and downright weird noises. The best way to describe “Sexx” is weird and animated, this electro banger will add some diversity to any playlist.

7) Calvin Harris – Awooga (Michael Brun Remix) I was waiting for someone to spice up Awooga, and this 18 year old producer from Haiti, (Patrick) Michael Brun, does the trick. He tweaks up the main drop in Awooga a bit, cuts it back and fourth and gives it some longevity. Expect more from this cat.

9) Swanky Tunes ft. Mr V.I. – Together (Original Mix) I posted the Hard Rock Sofa remix last months , here’s the original. The beasts from the East, Swanky Tunes, have been dominating the house scene, with their original sounds making it to virtually every DJ’s set. Get back you dirty Dutchmen and sexy Swedes, its the Russian Renaissance!

10) Benny Benassi – Cinema feat. Gary Go (Laidback Luke Remix) Previously posted here, Hardwell rocks the mega maniac’s latest remix.

11) Jus Jack – Feel The Love (Sebjak Mix) Up-and-coming Swedish producer (is house music the only thing they do over there?), Sebjak, kills it in this remix. It’s definitely more abstract and progressive, but has house roots with builds being somewhat similar to Axwell. He’s also added some fine touches to Daft Punk’s “Technologic” and Moguai’s “We Want Your Soul”.

BOMB ALERT! You should really check out this teaser to Encoder (anthem..), you’ll get the chills and goosebumps. This track drops on the 18th!

This week’s forecast is packing some serious heat, fuegs to the fourth degree.

Axwell – Heart Is King (Original Mix) After a long wait (2 years according to DA) here it is. To be honest, I’m still waiting for this song to grow on me, I think I was expecting this track to be similar to a SHM heater. Great production, a well-rounded sound, and lots of room left for remixing for this track. Nonetheless, it’s a worthy download.

Tim Mason – The Moment (Original Mix) This is a barn-burner in disguise indeed. In search of that SHM energy that was absent in Axwell’s single, Tim Mason from SIZE records gives me the drug that I’m looking for. THis was the track rumored to belong to Steve Angello or SHM, this obviously wasn’t the case. Major fuegs

Benny Benassi – Cinema feat. Gary Go (Laidback Luke Remix) This remix reeks of Laidback Luke’s scent..fast-hitting drums, synths of urgency, and a electro-style remix.

Calvin West – Children (Extended Mix) This is a sleeper for sure. It has overwhelming support by Tiesto, as he rocked it out during his show in Cleveland last weekend. This winner has the perfect balance of house and trance energy, great for the dancefloor

Sebastian Krieg – Buenos Aires (Original Mix) I’m lovin’ this progressive house track, nice builds with a smooth tempo.

Jerome Isma-Ae & Daniel Portman – Flashing Lights feat. Max’C – Nicky Romero & Nilson Remix Max’C's soulful vocals turns any house track into fire giving you happy vibes. This track is different however, Max’C's vocals blend perfect with Nicky Romero’s heavy hitting touch.

Alexandra Stan – Get back (ASAP) (Extended Version) The sax is back, Alexandra’s “Mr Saxobeat” was a sensation, and so will this track. Similar poppy feel but with some house elements added in.

Matuya & Kolya – Love Again feat. Ely (Hard Rock Sofa Remix) Ahh I cannot stress enough how nasty Hard Rock Sofa is. This track is amazing. The Russian trio knows how to hit right.

Hagenaar & Albrecht – Won’t Let You Down (Albin Myers Remix) As if the AGORa muffin’ mix wasn’t a big enough bomb, Albin doesn’t stop there with this nasty remix. Albin Myers is beginning to have a signature touch that is becoming more noticable (just listen).

Patric La Funk – Whistle (Original Mix) Collaborator of Fedde Le Grand on the “Autosave” anthem, Patric La Funk drops a sick tech-house/ghetto chiming track (I know it’s hard to imagine).

Havana Funk – Move Your Hips feat. Samy P, El Conde & Zelma Davis (Sidney Samson Remix) This is a funky fresh Latin heater remixed by dirty Dutch Sidney Samson, making it the starting ingredient for a fiesta!
