If you’ve missed the boat, and don’t know that the largest EDM event in Mexico’s history is taking over various Puerto Vallarta night clubs starting February 24 and running through April 8, 2012 — fear not. Individual tickets are now available.

Coming off his impressive debut “Video Game Slang”, 22-year-old Rob Chouake, aka Chobot, is back with another highly anticipated electro house offering called “Star Trekker”, which was also released through Miles Dyson’s Plasmapool records (think Mord Fustang and Hypster) this past Monday. Unlike its more melodic predecessor, the University of Michigan senior gives us a cutting robotic rendering headlined by an innovative hip-hop sample and a bombardment of gritty basslines, intertwined with all sorts of winding and wobbling space creatures. Although electro house isn’t my forté, I really do dig Chobot’s style and direction; I recommend checking out his remixes that I’ve posted below. And surprisingly enough, I kind of see bits of Laidback Luke in “Star Trekker” (4:15-4:30). Having already opened for talents like Hardwell and 3LAU, this is only the beginning for Chobot.

I snagged this dancefloor destroyer sometime last week and am just now getting to it. It’s so hot that it rightfully deserves a solo post. It’s good for any weekday casual dance party and is hipster friendly. I dare you to try and stay seated this entire track. This indie-dance and house fusion is a combination that I hope to come across more often in the near future. Is this where EDM is headed next? I’ve been dreaming of combining elements of Minus the Bear and house music together, with this being a potential outcome!

One of the remixers names is Twibak and to no surprise, he comes from Sweden. Here’s what he had to say about the track on his Soundcloud, “Massive big room sound a ‘la Swedish style”.

Workout Wednesdays: Rage Face!

It pained me not to see some of these tracks crack Fuego Friday’s selection, but luckily we have another outlet for excess fuego. With smashers like Michael Woods‘ “Bullet”, Aoki and Afrojack’s highly anticipated “No Beef” and tech-bomb “Mash Up Ya Ego”, this selection spans EDM’s peripheries and gives you a taste of a little bit of everything. Sorry if the playlist seems exhaustive, but if you’re like most people I’ve talked to who have little time and are too lazy to find hot new music, then you’ve come to right guy.

Let’s take a moment to talk about Michael Woods, who happens to be one hell of a producer who’s definitely underrated and deserves a spot on DJ MAG top 100. He’s a very unique producer who has come into his own in progressive house with his successful record label Diffused and by producing original cold-blooded smashers like “First Aid”, “No Access”, “Burned You Away“, and “Dynamik”. “Bullet” and the fine-tuned “VMS” are worthy additions to his club arsenal. “Bullet” is thee definition of a clubby-progressive dancefloor destroyer with it’s reeling, winding builds and urgent big room drops! Likewise, the original release of “VMS” is one of my all-time favorites and a defined treasure, but it has now taken on a cleaner and more ripe form.

Each visit to LAVO NY just keeps getting better and better. Calvin Harris stormed the house with some of LAVO’s most packed crowds. There are concerts every week, different djs playing at different bars and clubs, but Calvin’s performance brought back that feeling of raging at a festival – but in more civilized circumstances. He played his classics (at which point I always turn to my friend and go OH MY GOD!!! My brain is euphoric!) Everyone was rocking out – on top of ledges, on the couches, and dirty dancing on the dancefloor. I mean, it’s Calvin Harris.

The song I was looking forward to the most, was saved for the end. ”Feel So Close” dropped and my night was complete. And it followed “The Island pt.1″ by Pendulum. Done, my brain fried. He quickly exited not long after, but Calvin’s job here was done. He came & conquered. A secret rating system I have for DJs which is a little off the beaten track is how hard I danced and how gross I got in my evening finery. As a girl there is always that slight worry in the back of your head…will I leave looking somewhat presentable for the next possible club? But when song after song is just killing it and begging to be danced to, those worries are vanquished. So I left LAVO looking like a mess but it was well worth it for the bangers that Calvin put out.

Sorry it’s been so long since you’ve felt my heat but now it’s crush time as the volcano is about to erupt with copious amounts of liquid magma! It’s been a few weeks for releases so that translates into many electro cherry poppin’ eargasms, 15 to be exact.

Swedish House Mafia – Save The World (Zedd Remix) What is it with these ‘Save the World’ remixes? Each release is better than the former. I had the pleasure of seeing Zedd at a show near Detroit where he played with electro powerhouse Porter Robinson and the killer Skrillex. It was an unbelievable show and to be honest, Zedd was my favorite performer. Being the first out of three to perform, he arguably brought just as much energy out of the crowd and came out with the most intensity. The University of Michigan is making big moves in landing the top producers like Avicii, Laidback Luke, and Zedd (click their names for tickets) so you definitely want to get your tickets ASAP. As for the song it’s just an unreal combination — there are elegant and blissful moments followed by his signature gritty electro bite! Get this song on beatport.

Ash – Let Me Show You Love (Ash & Avicii’s Hype Machine Mix) You may recognize this track as “Tom Hangs Feat. Yolanda Selini Don’t Give Up On Us (Avicii Who Is The Swede Mix)” but this is what sources have been going by. If I’m correct, then Ash (Ash Pournouri) is Avicii’s manager from At Night management who has been producing a few tracks and has been chief in Avicii’s success. Avicii has been rocking this track and the next one at top tier festivals such as Tomorrowland in Belgium.

ASH vs Coldplay – Revolver (Original Mix) vs Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall (Avicii Tour Mix) It’s extremely difficult to do justice in describing this track but that’s the beauty of music and of Avicii, you shouldn’t be able to fully describe a song in words. This track is squeaky subtle goodness with fuego sooo hot it will melt your face off.

Goodwill & Hook N Sling – Take You Higher (Club Mix) Building off that momentum gained from their throttling remix to Hard Rock Sofa’s “Blow Up”, Australian front-runners and partners in crime Hook N Sling & Goodwill just dropped this smasher today on beatport. We all know how easily these guys can speed up the tempo with their talented remixing skills, but this track is a beautiful display of their craftsmanship in the production field. Authentic DUTCH imports from my three favorite Dirty Dutch DJs. It seems like the old style Dutch sound that originally lured us in is coming back — with those low-key clubby progressions that lead to obnoxious and explosive drops of Dutch magma.

Dirty South & Thomas Gold – Alive feat. Kate Elsworth (Original Mix) Coming off the success of his summer anthem remix to “Coming Home”, Dirty South collaborates with German producer Thomas Gold, who’s also been crushing it this year. This bomb has a similar structure like “Coming Home” with it’s soft and trippy builds but different in its piercing progressive-style drops. Go ahead and call me crazy because Thomas Gold was on my top 5 list for DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs. You can buy this song on beatport here.

AxisONE – Waiting For You (Original Mix) I swear EDX’s “Embrace” is living vicariously through Chinese producer axisONE on this spacey and harmonic track. Tilt your head back and catch that lustrous rhythm.

Whiskey Pete & Sporty-O – Heard Of Us (PeaceTreaty Remix) I don’t know how this bomb snuck by me when it was released but thanks to BeatMyDay I was able to check out tracks that were in some sets from Tomorrowland.

Fadi – Ticket To The Sky (Original Mix) Yup, eBUNNY called it on Fadi and came up with our nickname for him, the Hungry Hungarian. Fadi brings you the euphoric elements from feel-good house and electro dance. I’m excited for his emergence and am expecting great things.

I know I’m late on “The World” this but others may be as well. When I’m looking for bursts of energy and intense big room synths I immediately turn to Dutch producer Hardwell, who has had a monster year and deserves a spot in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ’s 2011 poll. In addition, the “Louder” remix is Hardwell’s latest installment that brings you more of a bass-heavy (REALLY heavy) electro feel combined with his chaotic Zero 73 synths. Can’t wait to see him at Electric Zoo.

Missed him the first time at LAVO NY earlier this summer? No worries, Calvin Harris is back. Honestly, I cannot wait to hear his new single “Feel So Close.” His other two new singles, “Awooga” and “Bounce” do not excite me quite as much this one does. I can already hear it being dropped on LAVO’s speakers, and I see it in the ranks of a Coldplay track – people will smile as they recognize the tune, sing along the words, and just have a fucking great time. Besides that, this song moves closer to his more usual funky electropop style than his last two tracks. Awooga is definitely Harris’ dip into a different direction, and it’s a great track, but when I think of Calvin Harris I want to hear “Flashback.” Vocal rich tracks with funky tunes which set him apart in the first place.

Anyway, come to 58th street between Park & Madison (LAVO) around 1am this Thursday July 28th to see the Scotsman hit up the turntables. Should be a good time.

Workout Wednesdays: Summer Smashing

Calvin Harris – Feel So Close (Radio Edit) “Feel So Close” is Calvin Harris’ latest single which is yet to be released but you can see the official video here. It’s expected to drop in the UK August 21st along with remixes by Nero, Benny Benassi and Dillon Francis. This track takes on a different form than “Awooga” and “Bounce” but in a good way–with a relaxed electro atmosphere delivered by Harris’ carefree vocals that really reminds me of The Killers.

Avicii – Fade Into Darkness (Vocal Club Mix) Although unavailable for purchase on Beatport in the US, here’s the extended vocal club mix of “Fade Into Darkness” (formerly known as “Penguin”) which has already been sampled by Leona Lewis without his permission. It really bums me out that she did that before Avicii had the chance to officially release it in the US. Her ass is going down. Please support Avicii and buy this treasure when it drops here in Amurrica!

Avicii – Levels (Clockwork Remix) “Levels” is already in the books as one of Avicii’s most original sounding tracks with it’s contagious feel-good hum-along melodies and its overall blissful musical mastery. Here’s a remix by Clockwork, who rocked out a straight silly remix to Maximum Balloon & Theophilus London’s “Groove Me”. It maintains that run from the original summer anthem but adds in a crispy bass-heavy drop.

Swedish House Mafia – Save The World (AN21 & Max Vangeli Remix) Another quality remix of Swedish House Mafia’s summery sing-along anthem “Save the World” to add your Fuego playlist. I’m a huge fan of the bass-heavy lounge infused progression and valiant build that seamlessly meshes with John Martin’s vocals. A wonderfully crafted remix that puts itself at the near top. Let’s see what Zedd can do about it.

Laidback Luke – Natural Disaster (Instrumental Extended Mix) The enigmatic Laidback Luke has been on a straight tear with a legendary performance on Governor’s Island, a killer”All of the Lights” remix and the respectable “Speak Up (Instrumental Mix).” To no surprise, this track is a chaotic yet beautiful natural disaster with an epic piano build and high octane drop!

Afrojack – Bangduck (Moguai Remix) “Bangduck” was definitely one of my favorite tracks by Afrojack back when I dove head-first into the house scene. Moguai gets weird and creative on this rejuvenated duck.

Moby – Lie Down In Darkness (Arno Cost Remix) Happy and mystical vibes all around from Arno Cost’s dreamy remix to Moby’s “Lie Down In Darkness.”

Afrojack, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Nervo – The Way We See The World (Tomorrowland Anthem Instrumental) This is one summer smashing anthem by an unexpected collaboration. It’s all Afrojack for the first build then you can clearly see where the others chyme in on that nasty big room drop!

Axwell – Heart Is King (DBN Remix) I have been patiently waiting for a legit remix to Axwell’s “Heart Is King” and have finally gotten some bites. Between this and the ATB & Josh Gallahan remix, DBN’s had a bit more body with harder hitting tempo. I’m going to make a prediction right now in hope that Alesso drops a remix to this track that will massacre my ear drums.

But determined to deliver, I’ve gathered enough quality fuego worthy for a fuego friday. Swedish House Mafia – Save The World feat. John Martin (Alesso Remix) I think we can all agree that the best part about Swedish House Mafia‘s 3rd single ‘Save The World’ was not their music video, nor the original and radio mixes, but rather the remixes! Last Fuego Friday we all saw how Style of Eye & Carli crushed it with their remix, but now it’s time to listen Alesso’s feel-good BOMB! I like how Alesso manages to keep SHM’s original intentions of vibrant spirits and sing-along vibes. If you like what you hear then check out our Alesso post here.

Fedde Le Grand – Metrum (Original Club Mix) His name should actually be Fedde le Fuego, because he touches torches my eardrums. “Metrum” deviates tremendously from his anthem “Autosave” and converges with his progressive/tech roots.

Kylie – Aphrodite (Denzal Park Remix) Kylie Minogue has been one of Australia’s most prolific dance-pop singers and has a voice as light and airy as a bottle of champagne. In addition, Denzal Park has really impressed me with his big room dance house remixing (check out his remix to Wynter Gordon‘s “Til Death” here)!

Afrojack – Doing It Right (Johnny Muse Remix) Normally I don’t like to dabble into Afrojack remixes but this remix by young Polish producer Johnny Muse is great!

Filip Jenven ft. Max C – Lifting It Higher (Micha Moor Remix) There’s no doubt that Kentucky native Max’C is the best male house singer right now, bringing nothing but that gospel and soul to any genre of music (I love his signature blissful “ooo-ooo”). Also, I haven’t heard much about German producer Micha Moor, but I definitely want to hear moor! Check out his track “Keep On Rising (Original Mix)” it’s a house smasher for sure!

Johnny Buss – Do You Feel The Same (Hard Rock Sofa Big Room Mix) I hope you all have a good feel of Russian (Crussian) trio Hard Rock Sofa by now because they’re obviously one of my favorites and always produce quality tracks. The regular remix was featured on Saturday Night Smashin’ but now I got a heavier and more ballsy big room remix, which is clearly evident around 2:30 in. Not to mention, the vocals on this track are breathtaking as well.

This next bunch can be perfectly described as one giant electro eargasm.

First I would like to give a huge shout out to one of my close friends Natalia Lalonde (make sure to follow her facebook fan page here) for letting us use her beautiful body to hype up Fuego Fridays! Expect more photos of her in my posts. Second I would like to thank my wonderful diva Catherine Sung for her amazing photoshop game. Anyway, I just got some clutch tracks in time for your soon-to-be fuego Friday. I’m going to stress on some monster remixes that efficiently shift the originals to a new sound.

Swedish House Mafia – Save The World feat. John Martin (Style Of Eye & Carli Remix) This bomb was rocked out by Calvin Harris during BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend and impressed many to say the least. I feel like John Martin’s softer emotional vocals are hard to work with so it’s interesting to see what producers have been able to do with it. Swedes Style of Eye & and Carli conserve piano elements from the original and churn this track into an upbeat, feel-good, blood-pumping SMASHER! I’m looking forward to the remix package to release soon!

Calvin Harris – Awooga (Michael Brun Bootleg) I put up a rip of this track when it was featured on Electric Area‘s “Hardwell On Air 006″ which was decent quality and ~4 long. Now it’s time for a quality extended BOOTY! Awooga is amazing already but Michael Brun gives it a whole new twist by cutting and looping parts of the monster drop.

Imogen Heap – Hide And Seek (Otto Knows Bootleg) This is definitely one of those peak-time festival smashers that mirrors a hybrid of Avicii’s “Penguin” and “Drowning (Aviicii Remix). Beautifully put by one of best blogs Beat My Day : “Sprinkled by an absolute brilliant setting of piano leads, it comes just in time for what might be the best Summer yet for house and EDM. Gear up for the embellished appeal of perfectly compiled piano tones coming from on the rise-producer Otto Knows, graced with the smooth vocal from the world renowned London singer.”

Bingo Players – Cry (Just A Little) (Olav Basoski Remix) Dutch dance pioneer Olav Basoski tweaks up Bingo Player‘s “Cry” which, along with Steve Angello’s old track “Davali”, sampled Brenda Russell’s “Piano In The Dark“. The Bingo Players track is a great dance track but at times it can get a bit redundant, Olav gives it some new life.

Boys Will Be Boys – WE ROCK (Original Mix) If you didn’t know already, Boys Will Be Boys is Tiesto’s latest project with young Indonesian Angger Dimas and Dutch hardstyle duo Showtek. This release is completely different from the track on Tiesto’s “Club Life Vol. One: Las Vegas”. This version strays from the house style synths and takes on a much more clubby Tiesto outlook. You can definitely see where Tiesto takes over in this track with this classic chops that start around a minute in (similar chops to his “Escape Me”).

Boys Will Be Boys – WE TELL (Original Mix) I actually dig this much more than “We Rock”, it’s a spacier and calmer track that manages to keep a constant rhythm. Around 3:10 it gets epic with a harmonic build and beautiful drop!

Chris Brown & Benny Benassi – Beautiful People (Cosmic Dawn Club Remix) This is sick dance/house remix by Cosmic Dawn, a Norwegian dj and producer.

Kaskade vs Avicii – Sorry Bom (Kaskade Mash Up) Kaskade is a mash-up machine programmed to crush.

Alex Sayz – Free To Go feat. Nadia Ali (Original Mix) After hearing Alex Sayz‘s sleeper “Faces (Original Mix)” smash Tiesto’s ”Club Life Vol. One: Las Vegas”, I knew that this collaboration with club queen vocalist Nadia Ali would be straight fuego. It’s a darker progressive tune.

Neighbour – Toute Freak (DCUP Remix) Destroy the dance floor that you just created with funky fresh fuego by DCUP.

Marcus Schossow & Red Carpet – Alright 2011 (Marcus Schossow Remix) With a clubby progressive build, absorbing yet powerful vocals, and valiant synths and a hard-hitting Dada Life-like finish, this track is synonymous with winning!

Michael Woods – Burned You Away (Original Mix) This was definitely a hidden gem in my iTunes that struck out to me when I was jamming out to “Ministry of Sound Club: Residents – Michael Woods“. Be sure to grab your lover for this sensual intergalactic smasher! It features debilitating piano chords with yearning vocals (you will seriously be looking at the stars) followed by straight Michael Woods club swag.

Treasure Fingers and Calvin Harris @ Lavo

How was your Cinco de Drinko? Mine was fantastic, thanks for asking. Actually, better than fantastic because I went to Lavo with our latest addition to the Silverlake to Soho team, Mindee Aviva, for Treasure Fingers and Calvin Harris!!

We heard stories about the door at Lavo, but it was quite another thing to experience it for ourselves. What a redonkulous line! (note: we spellchecked this against Urban Dictionary… this is totes how you spell it) Thank god for guest-lists. The crowd was a stupid mix of yuppies, misplaced hipsters, bassheads, Europeans, and label-less party people such as ourselves. Lavo itself is a beautiful venue and on this night the lavishness of it all was topped off with two foot glittery letters spelling out “CALVIN HARRIS” across the dance floor. It was like prom, but way less awkward.

The night started out with Treasure Fingers, who was a last minute addition to the set. This Atlanta based Producer / Musician / Writer / DJ / Remixer set a wild disco dance party into motion, punctuated by sparklers and bottles making their way to their respective purchasers. I’m pretty sure one of those bottles went straight to the face at some point in the night. His set was full of his insanely popular remixes, eccentric sounds and mad funky beats.

The King of Electropop Calvin Harris was then introduced by the obligatory cruise ship horn and blast of smoke from the fog machine. Elbows were flying, fists were pumping, and the bass was relentless. He dropped popular tracks off his latest album “Ready for the Weekend” as well as other favorite electronic hits that this crazy dancing crowd ate right up. The absurdity of the glittery letters spelling out the DJ’s name were only enhanced by a vibrant laser light show that made this ultimate dance party all the more intensely satisfying. Harris’ next album is forthcoming, but if you’re itching for some CH right now, check out “Awooga” and “Bounce”.

Face plant in bed approximately 3:30 am. Don’t really remember much about the ride home. The end!

Kaskade vs. Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike & Dada Life – Stars Align Tomorrow (Kaskade Mashup) Here’s the mash-up of the original mix in case you didn’t get when he dropped it. Definitely one of my favorites at the moment.

Kaskade vs. Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike & Dada Life – Stars Align Tomorrow (Digital LAB & Pedro Henriques Dub) (Kaskade Mash Up) This mash-up is much heavier, its build reminds me of Thomas Gold and its drop mimics Albin Myers’ style.

Tiesto absolutely crushed with his “Club Life Vol. One: Las Vegas” compilation that was released the first week of April (You can purchase it on beatport here). It featured “Don’t Ditch“, “Blessed“, “Zero 76 “, and “C’Mon“, just to name a few anthems. Here’s some other amazing tracks that were featured that I haven’t posted previously.

Alex Sayz – Faces (Original Mix) Get your club on with this track as Stockholm native, Alex Sayz, delivers a euphoric existence on the dance floor. This is definitely one of my favorite tracks Tiesto dropped live.

Kaskade – Fire In Your New Shoes feat. Martina Of Dragonette (Sultan & Ned Shepard’s Electric Daisy Remix) This track is timeless and can be rocked out whenever. Sultan & Ned have been killing it recently.

Dune – Heiress Of Valentina (Alesso Exclusive Mix) Alesso has received MASSIVE support from pretty much every producer/DJ right now (especially SHM), and you’ll see why. Never will you see such an incredible house track that combines vocals from a ridiculously winy emo singer so efficiently.

Amy Meredith – Young At Heart (Angger Dimas Remix) Twenty-two year old Indonesian phenom, Angger Dimas, is the next Laidback Luke (yeah I just said it). As his facebook page puts it:

“If Nasi Goreng, the mash up of rice, egg and vegetables is Indonesia’s nation food dish then DJ and producer Angger Dimas represents Indonesia’s national music dish with his mash up of chopped beats and pumping synths that are topped off with some Dutch inspired spicy sounds!”

Tiësto – Green Sky (Original Mix) “Green Sky” is Tiesto’s latest track that was released for free. This jam conserves Tiesto’s classic trance sounds.

As of 3 hours ago, Calvin Harris tweeted about the official first radio play of his upcoming single,”Bounce”. I must say, this winner has Calvin written all over it — with mad groovy strikes and emphatic electro synths. Not to mention, Kelis is one sexy mami, her milkshake definitely brings all the boys to the yard (damn right it’s better than yours). I’m diggin’ her newly discovered niche in the house world, ever since Benassi‘s “Acapella” her voice has illuminated every track she’s featured on, I want more of this da da diva!
