8-bit music for cracked out mondays

As many of you know this past weekend, we’ve been hammering out the new version of vokoder and a mobile version for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry. The new version of the site is dropping late this week / early next week, so keep checking back for updates and also check out the updated pluURL site!

During this weekend, myself and my partner in crime vishnu. While Vishnu focused on our mobile applications, I spent each night this weekend up until 5/6 AM building a new API for Vokoder FM, which served as the inspiration for this playlist. You know when it gets so late you feel like you’re either cracked out and/or black out drunk…. just go with it lol, anyway to keep myself up I put this little playlist together for ya’ll to enjoy.

I had to kick it off with an old 80’s favorite 99 Red ballons from Nena, then some new favorites Chiddy Bang and Mike Posner. Finally topped it off with a set of tracks from the 8-bit collective

Welcome to the Weekend: Coachella Edition

If you’re out and SoCal and you dropped the ball like I did by not picking up a ticket for the three-day festival out in the desert with arguably the most momentous lineup of all time, you’re probably handing your head in shame. Fortunately, it’s the end of a long week and this playlist is designed to at least capture the feeling of partying in your own 12-person house, stumbling over to the massive tent city in Indio to catch Guetta, Jay-Z, etc. and wandering back home in 85 degree perfect weather for an after hours dance party. We’ve got some cuts from Chiddy Bang, an embarrassingly catchy club remix of Selena Gomez, not to mention the new BoB track “Airplanes” written by Kinetics and One Love. As if you already don’t have enough songs already for the spring and summer, keep this playlist in mind . A few of the tracks have previously been posted on other playlists (welcome to the weekend weather) but this mix includes some notable bangas like Dizzee Rascal’s “Dance Wiv Me” and one of Kanye’s unreleased tracks “What It Is”, both of which are prime for parties or pregame. If Kanye’s jam is anything like his upcoming stuff then you know Kanye is truly hungry, I’m talkin’ “College Dropout” hungry if that implies anything. Keepin’ the cool with nasty beats is what this mix is about, with a couple joints by Wale, who is perhaps the wittiest lyricist in the game right now with “Mirrors” featuring Bun B definitely worth a listen. “Pretty Girls”, Wale’s second single from Attention Deficit is probably one of my favorite songs on here just because of how ridiculous Wale is with the hook “Ugly girls be quiet quiet” which is great shout out for the divas. Lastly, Lupe Fiasco’s second single “I’m Beamin’” is fire and is also included in the zip file if you choose to download. Another one of my favorites has to be “Fat Raps” by Chip the Ripper ft. Big Sean & Curren$y, I think some say that the track is what you call “bumping?” Make sure you pay attention to one of the most clever verses in the song by Curren$y: “I like my grapes and my weed seedless, gettin’ pussy with my fathers features..”. Furthermore, like hip-hop music in general, this mix will spark off your night from the get-go and straight crush

Chiddy Bang: Air Swell (A Mini-Mixtape)

Chiddy Bang just released their mini mixtape, which could be a good sign that they will release an album hopefully this summer. Two of the songs I’ve already posted earlier, “Under the Sheets” & “Stylo”. Chidera definitely knows how to deliver on each verse, cipher’ing those syllables to leave a lasting impression in your head. Others might see this as him being too poppy or even corny because their own wordplay sucks. His rhymes and lyrics are definitely intended for our era of college kids and Xaphoon’s DJ IQ is off the charts. His taste in music is what really makes their songs so good – Sampling the likes of Passion Pit , Ellie Goulding, MGMT, and even the Gorillaz new sound into a hiphop beat that is just straight fire. All I’m saying is watch the fuck out for these guys, regardless if they sell out or not, they are talented.

Enjoy this massive edition of Silverlake to soho’s hit list playlist. There’s a huge variety of artist and genres spanning UK Hip hop to some of our Country favorites.

We’ve scrummaged the internet for a mix of old classics and new artists. Some of which include our two good friends at 2AMclub and Kinetics & One Love. For you country lover’s, we tried to mix it up with a new comer Sara Haze and you all already know Lady Antebellum.

I have a soft spot for French Music, hence the addition of La Roux, and we added more music from our friends across the pond with Stylah and Philadelphia’s Chiddy Bang.
