From the same Australian House duo that brought you the anthem "In My Mind" comes a new remix of Kaskade & Skylar Grey's "Room For Happiness". Feenixpawl took Skylar Grey's entrancing vocals and supported them with an equally powerful instrumental melody, creating a perfectly balanced melody. Stay tuned for more new goodies from Feenixpawl during 2012...I think they are only getting started.

Atlanta/Brooklyn based Treasure Fingers returns with his second EP on Defected Records, which is one of the most legitimate and historic record labels with regards to actual house music. This time the funk disco specialist has teamed up with No Brainer Records head honcho Malente. The EP titled track "Crusaders" is built around an infectious funky disco bassline and features sound detailing of soulful vocal distortions and howls to induce any free spirit into a deep groove. The As for the second track "Au Revue", now this is what you call house music. They essentially take an impeccable disco loop to create a fun, fuego-filled atmosphere on the dancefloor.

John Dahlback has been keeping busy lately with his new two-cd compilation for Toolroom Knights that will be released on February 6th. This is soon to be followed by a North America tour in February. The wind is literally howling outside my window and is just plain nasty to look out. But that doesn't matter, because this compilation is warming me up with groovy vocals and a smooth dance beat. Featuring three new tracks of his own, this is a compilation to be heard. Toolroom Knights has invited many guest producers to compose their compilations such as Fedde le Grand, Umek, Chris Lake, Funkagenda and now John Dahlback.

Although Dahlback is highly acclaimed by those familiar with progressive, somehow he still sneaks under our radar. Like the line on the album cover, it is quite the journey through house music. I definitely feel a funkier disco vibe run throughout this mix than the recent house tracks I have been listening to; which comes as a pleasant change up. The cool and ambient female vocals give a more relaxed dance or listening session. I got caught off guard when Mark Knight & Wolfgang Gartner's "Conscindo" dropped in. With the ever-changing landscape of EDM, it was still a welcome surprise to bring back a great track. I'm loving the funk introduced with Federico Scavo's "Strump" as well. Delivering his excellent mixing skills to the table, Johnback's mix doesn't dissapoint the seasoned house listender.

Here's a little preview to check it out for yourself, be sure to preorder the copy here: Toolroom Knights

A few minutes with the world famous dj, John Digweed and a little op-ed to go with it.

It's not everyday you sit down with a DJ that was at the front of the movement for quite some time now. I was quite in awe when I first received the email that I was going to interview John Digweed at Electric Zoo. I took a deep breathe - I was giddy with excitement. It took me back to a memory, not particularly that eventful, but it is forever ingrained in my mind. When I was say twelve or thirteen years old back in suburbia, there was nothing ever to do except drive around in my friends' cars around town blasting music. But before this turns into a suburban teenager angst novel, we were speeding down JFK parkway heading home and 'Heaven Scent (Bedrock Remix)' played from the speakers. Its delicate chords sent me into a feeling of awe and goosebumps even at that young age - no drugs, no party, just pure musical bliss. I told myself to remember the track name but as short term memory goes, as soon as I entered my front door the name left my tongue.

My friend whose CD it was had already gone to bed, so I enlisted the help of another in a desperate three hour search for the name of the song. My feeble attempts at describing the tune had narrowed our search somewhat. "Heaven! It had something heaven in it..." But in those days, every happy hardcore and Eurodance song had the word 'heaven' in it. Finally by some chance miracle, and late in the night, we stumbled upon it. Never had I experienced such a feeling of gratefulness and appreciation of search effort for a track. Needless to say, I had the track on repeat for quite some time.

As I said earlier, nothing momentous. But the Digweed's track was so well done, it was very well worth the search. And through all the years of finding and listening to electronic music, for some reason that memory stuck. The work Digweed has put out before that track, and now well after, is seeped in quality. He is a man with EDM flowing in his veins, a passion born at that first club he went to. For the new DJs that hop on to the scene recently, they forget there is the "art of a set." They are foolish to disregard that and should take a leaf out of Digweed's book. Look to him, young ones, look to him and learn how he keeps people with him for those twelve hour sets at Twilo. He pulls his audience through crest and troughs, carefully measuring energy making sure there is enough left for the general buildup and progression of the set.

This is a knowledge that becomes second nature, but it is only earned with experience and practice. Humble down, young ones, because although you are taking the world by storm now, who knows if you will still be standing after your own aftermath years later.

Needless to say, I felt privileged to be able to sit down with Digweed. It is not just the fact of his fame and talent, but the shear breadth of memories and experience. He's been through it all, always involved in the EDM scene as it has come to be today. While there are many now who think electronic music was born yesterday, I am sorry to disappoint them that no, Avicii or Guetta did not start this movement. If you care to dig deeper into the history of EDM, you will find that Digweed's name was making waves years before Avicii was even born. I will venture to say that the EDM landscape may have been very different if there was no John Digweed. And that's just a thought...

A few questions for Teva, UK producer who's bringing serious groove to house and deep house tracks.

Teva (Jay Gilbert) is a new artist hailing from the UK, his beats are soulful and groovy bringing a whole new level to dance music. His classical background in piano simply brings out the best of him. He will be on tour next month in India, spreading the truth of house and deep house to the masses there. He has produced under other monikers, but is currently exploring his piano influences under this one.

When Sasha drops a track, it’s for a reason. He knows what he’s doing. So when Sasha dropped Teva's track 'Must I Go', it’s no wonder that it’s smooth, groovy, and sexy. The twangs of the basslines just hit that “move” button on the dance floor. If you’re not dancing to this, then you clearly don’t know how. That was the first song that got me hooked, and I went on a hunt for more on his soundcloud page. Honestly, and I believe when I say so, Teva is up and coming talent. Currently on ALiVE Recordings, his tracks definitely carry the sound of a longtime heavy weight. Young as he is, the soul that this track as well as his others pack belong to another time.
Teva - Must I Go [ALiVE Recordings] by teva

I sent him a few questions to find out more about his background, style, and work. Here is what he had to say.

What was your prior moniker and what would you say was the style of tracks you released under it?

Well, there lies a secret I have tried to keep under wraps for a bit, so there was no confusions for my new (ish) teva monika!
When I first started producing in early 2009 I went under the monika 'no brainer' and had a few original releases, the first being on Jim Rivers's own imprint - Misfit in december 09. Style wise I grew up listening to Faithless, Chicane and Tiesto's 'In Search Of Sunrise' mixes, then alos alot of UK garage artsist's in the 90s so was heavily influenced by rich melodies and chord progressions and bass lines, so No Brainer was an avenue for my more progressive productions of the time.

What made you decide to move on to your new name, Teva?

As I got more deeply involved with the music scene my musical tastes were influenced by new artists and music i was listening too and i felt that No Brainer was not the direction i wanted to continue in for now, so i created Teva I have a huge love for melody and chord progression so i still like to involved that in my productions today, just in a more subtle/deeper way from before.

Do you ever produce under your real name?

I haven't done.... It's something I have in my head that my name probably isn't very cool so I will probably keep that as it is!

Did you always know you were going to study music in college? Is your family musical as well?

The music at college thing was where it kinda started for me. Although I had been heavily involved in music from a young age - played piano from 5 but in a more classical way. So when I got to college, having left school at 15, I was looking to do music in some sort of fashion and found a music technology course that grabbed my full attention. I spent every second of the 2 year course living in the studio at college and got to learn the ropes of an analogue studio. There's not a massive musical background in the family, especially not an electronic one. My dad was taught the piano from a young age by his grandma......my great grandma i think......and she was a pianist for the London Philamonic Orchestra in the 1940's... but thats about it really. My tutor at college (who had his own 'Pet Shop' esq electro pop group) kick started my love for synths and analogue bits of studio kit.

What led you away from the current craze of progressive/electro house and into house/tech-house?

Erm, I think slight bit of boredom really, I wanted something fresh to work on. Genres will come and go as far as popularity goes, but they will all come round again so it wasn't a case of following the crowd. I found myself getting stuck in the same progressive movement as far as song writing went and I wanted to 'step outside the box' a bit.
My music now still has progressive influences for sure, but its also got influences I've picked up along the way from all sorts.

For Americans who have never been, how would you describe the electronic music/club scene in England? Is it it difficult to break out as a producer there versus the rest of Europe?

Haha, depends where you go and who your with pretentious? in some areas....Great fun in others. Unfortunately, we lost some of the best clubs in London like 'The End', Turnmills etc., so more and more raves have ended up in Warehouse spaces in London. Warehouses aren't much fun though in the winter when they are wet and cold!
There are still some great clubs though, obviously not mentioning Fabric, but Cable is also a cool space with a big system. Centre point is London's version of 'Weekend' club in Berlin, top floor space with great views of the city.

London is a fairly busy place for djs and more and more producers are popping up too but it is still outweighed by the number of djs, which does make it hard to break out for new comers, so that's why productions plays such a big part now to a success of a dj.
I'd imagine its a similar vibe through Europe, and with it becoming ever more accessible to produce with loops and samples, you really a lot of musical ability money to make music, unlike you used to have to. So its nice to see more tracks breaking through now, that are all about the music and less about picking out sample and putting them together like a jigsaw.

Your new track 'Must I Go', how did that one come about?

Ha this actually came about from me running a set of online courses for a London productions school company where I was running through the basics of logic synth and I came up with that bass sound in the ES2 and wrote the bass line off camera...!
The week before I had also been round a great friend of mine and sat in his studio recording percussion hits from his 808 drum machine which then I decided to use in the track. So it kind of fell together after that.

What's the next destination you wish to play in?

Ha America of course besides that it would be Japan and other areas in Asia. It would be a real to treat to travel to these amazing places and play my music to them, even if they didn't like it

Detroit's been holding out on the EDM blogosphere, though you can find him opening up for major EDM acts all over Detroit, and even now he's holding down his own residency at Elektricity in Pontiac. But besides his DJing gigs, he also produces - teaming with up Carrera or on his own on. His tracks are on Beatport, with labels such as Nervous Records and Ultra. With his resume already so built up, it's a wonder there isn't more exposure.

His name is Yos, and I first heard him open for Gabriel & Dresden at Bleu Detroit when I noticed his more tech and house based set. Even when he opened for Avicii at Bert's Warehouse a few weeks later, I found his opening set more dynamic and compelling than Avicii's own set. That was even before I found myself fully jumping on the elitist house, techno, and tech-house train. A few of my friends even approached me that night and asked "Who is that?! That was awesome..." I can't pin him in one genre because he can go from techno to tech house to house to even tribal, so it wouldn't even be fair to put him in a corner. To give him credit, no artist should ever be bound. You go where inspiration goes.

Make sure your bass is on whether it be speakers or headphones, or it will do these tracks no justice. One of my favorite tracks of his is "Flawless" and for obvious reasons. There is the groovy build up, the tribal drums, vocals that are so in time with the beat that just put me in the right set of mind to just get on the dancefloor.

Yos - Flawless

To those of my friends who love those weird sounds, that deep electronic voices, white noise - here you go, something new to play for your ears. It's minimal but with a taste of a tribal beat going on. Dubfire-esque with a new direction and more melody.

Here is some of his work with Carrera, true to its label it is definitely a tech-house track. The basslines that drop in at :36 seconds really bring in the house feel to the track

Troxler brought the pilgrimage underground to Good Units.

In the few times that I have been to Good Units, never have I seen it so packed. The entire main floor was crowded, with people overlooking from the balconies above. As I situated myself towards the middle, I suddenly realized I needed to watch out where I was dancing as to not bump into others. Never having to do that before at Good Units, I saw what a pilgrimage had gathered for Seth Troxler, the show of the holiday season.

Troxler's personality on the decks was groovy, casual - not trying to impress anyone with their super DJ ego, just simply having a good time. Accompanying him was Shaun Reeves, with a crew hanging out on stage cruising to the beats. Behind them was a huge screen displaying a visual performance of video clips collaged together for a series of strange and other worldly vibes - from smoking buildings, to trippy visuals of a man turning into dust, to random eerie situations. Once again, Verboten was helping us go to the next dimension with the music. Move your body, explore your mind.

Recently I have been going to a lot of minimal and techno/tech-house shows that now when I go to another one, I have this audio illusion that I recognize every track. Or at least the beginnings of tracks. Certain basslines hit a chord or memory of an Itunes playlist, spotify track, or show. It has gotten bad enough to the point that I physically stop what I am doing and my mind struggles with IDing the track. I suppose it will take therapeutic show sessions to convince myself to let go of IDing tracks (so when's the next show?). However, I was able to successfully ID one track - recognizing it from when I saw Loco Dice play in Detroit with crazy vocals leading into a loop from Duck Sauce's Big Bad Wolf, which was followed by what some would call a life changing experience. (Butch - Rawhide )

Throughout Troxler's set, he kept the basslines heavy and then brought uplifting vocal tracks to raise the crowd before bringing us back into the groove. Ideally, I'm waiting to get my hands on a tracklist to post because there were some vocal tracks I did not expect him to drop. It was sometimes to the point of mystic before dropping back into deep basslines. The more I listen to "house" music in its original classifications, the more it is easy to see how house music has its roots in jazz and disco. Take a look at this music info graphic illustrated and animated timeline by Thomson to show dance music has evolved (See it here.) I'm posting my video here, just to give a hint to the sounds Seth Troxler was dropping.

While I was there, I was hearing rumors Good Units was closing soon, and this was to be one of the last shows. I am saddened to hear this, as Good Units is one of those great underground spaces that bring in great names in electronic music along the ranks of LPR and a few others. Hopefully, the numbers that showed for Troxler can convince them otherwise.

Here are two more of the tracks he dropped that night:

One of my favorite raw spaces in New York City happens to be found underneath the Hudson hotel, known to many as the home of "Good Units." With a bar space outside the performance area, Good Units has entertained with some of the best DJs such as Maceo Plex, Carl Craig, Art Department and many others. Next Saturday, they do the same with Seth Troxler and Shaun Reeves.

Seth Troxler, a native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, worked his way playing in the heart of the Detroit music scene, as well as working in a record store. He now lives in Berlin creating his music but not before he was heavily influenced by both his family and peers that he worked with here in Detroit. Troxler is an excellent example for portraying Detroit, its people, and music scene. The producers who come from there such as Carl Craig or Yos, along with the people who currently attend have house and techno instilled in them from an early age, and Seth Troxler is no different. (Click here to read more on my take on the Detroit Music Scene OP/ED). With such a rich education in the scene, it is no wonder he started producing. For some of his more current tracks, he has collaborated with Deetron who recently put out Balance 20.

Playing along with Troxler that night is his buddy Shaun Reeves who also comes from the Detroit area. Aligned with Crosstown Rebels (which has just been voted by RA best label), Shaun Reeves has worked with many artists such as Guti to make groovy, ambient tunes.

Intro to Spotlight on Detroit, or why I'm doing this series in essence.

Home of Detroit Techno, Detroit is still musically rich as ever - especially in the EDM scene. As the world moves their eyes onto bigger DJs such as Kaskade who are taking over the media, it is easy to overlook the local scenes. Detroit, once known as the playing grounds for masters such as Richie Hawtin and Carl Craig in earlier years, has been coveting some new gems from the public eye. The music scene here is bustling with a people who have grown up with electronic music and know what good quality is. This attitude is so perceivable that DJs such as Avicii knew that when he came into town, he had to put on a solid set. The culmination of Detroit talent is found in DEMF (Detroit Electronic Music Festival) now called Movement, but it is still not as well known festival for the rest of the country or world. I find that such a shame, because the energy here is so raw between the music and the people that it is really something you have to experience first hand.

While others may say that this musical experience is available in other cities, it is really in Detroit that techno took over as a whole (same with Chicago and house music). New York is not known for a type of EDM music - EDM there is part of a vast flourishing amount of different types of music, underground or overground. Many people I know will disagree with me on this point, especially those from New York but I defend myself now in that this is simply my opinion. When I started exploring the Detroit music scene, it seems that everyone I meet knows at least something about electronic music. When I tell others how I have a substantially large crew at my school who loves EDM and know to get their asses to the venue for Carl Cox, Sbtrkt, Sharam, or Loco Dice, the New Yorkers are genuinely surprised. In New York, EDM seems a segmented group especially when you dive into the more minimal and tech house genres. Here, in Detroit it's an accepted way of life. There is no need to educate here, you're already preaching to the choir.

Of course I am only one person, who has had only so many experiences and it is always hard to generalize with electronic music since there are so many nuances, different subgenres, underground and overground movements. However, from what I have seen, these are the conclusions I draw not just from rationalization, but also on a emotionally perceptive level. I know the feeling I get when I go see Carl Craig or Loco Dice in Detroit - as if I'm part of something special, something engrained and that feeling bounces off the people that are around me. There is such a sense of pride, it can only be described by the header picture above of Claude von Stroke holding up the Detroit flag. I have yet to experience that feeling in other cities, but quite frankly I know I won't because the vibe is just not the same.

This isn't to belittle other cities and their EDM scene, this is just an effort to explain what goes down in Detroit. There is talent here playing and a people who aren't afraid to show their love for this music. It is something that I, as a person who has grown up with EDM since I was a child, have grown to appreciate. I want to share that talent and bring the light back on Detroit to show people what I have witnessed. The Spotlight on Detroit series will feature artists I have encountered in my nights here, who I believe merit the attention. Judge me as you will for my thoughts on Detroit, but take a moment to hear the music. I know Detroit has.

In the flurry of EDM events happening this weekend, one to check out is definitely Dubfire. With the EDM scene really picking up, I now find myself facing the dilemma of wanting to be in too many places at once but this is well established talent not to be missed. Dubfire was Sharam's counterpart in DeepDish, the duo very well known for their remixes of Dido's song Thank you. Dubfire on his own steered his course towards a more minimal and techno vibe. A few years back, he started his own record label Sci+Tec - an very fitting name for his style of music.

Saturday (Nov. 26) he is headlining at District 36 (29 W36th street) with an opening set by Sleepy & Boo. Doors open at 10 for a night of well seasoned talent. Dubfire is joined by Carlo Lio from Toronto on the minimal train with him own label Rawthentic. Be sure to buy tickets here.

Check out a preview from Dubfire's set at Loveland Amsterdam:
Also released through his imprint Axtone, the house architect and remix mastermind delivers a dazzling synth lead and charging bassline in his oven-fresh edit of "Resurrection".
The young guns deliver the heat on an outstanding remix package of David Guetta's "Titanium".

"Titanium" was definitely one of Guetta's better tracks from his album with its carefree melodies and Sia's emotionally driving vocals. Well, it looks like the young guns take melodies to a whole new level on this next series of remixes. I would normally only pick a couple of the best remixes from a package like this, but I couldn't decide which one I liked the most (Arno Cost probably wins in my book). I've heard Nicky Romero's and Alesso's remixes during their respective live sets at the Mid Chicago recently, and was a huge fan of both. The Swede sensation (not Avicii!) Alesso features his signature euphoric synth progression while Dutchman Nicky Romero gives us a punchy electro bassline. Don't sleep on other two either--Arno Cost's remix may actually be the most impressive and complete take with its angelic layers and warm chord breakdown. Last but least, the young French star Gregori Klosman delivers a balanced combination of feel-good house and gritty electro with a catchy and blissful piano progression followed by a short, crisp breakdown.

Another high quality (320 kbps) cut of ASH Pournouri's exuberant face-melter "Let Me Show You Love" has surfaced. Let me remind you that the track is not called "Enough is Enough" or "Don't Give Up On Us", ASH himself even posted a youtube video with the title "Let Me Show You Love" on his Facebook page. I feel like the only difference between this and the last (6:15 long) edit is that those dreamy chimes were taken out (unfortunately). Just when you think Avicii couldn't differentiate his signature sound any further (as in him running out of ideas), he really does deliver on this emotionally driving house track.

I've got some fresh and feisty smash-ups to get you through the beginning of the week.

I'm surprised that this combination hasn't been mashed earlier. I heard this bomb mid September when I saw Laidback Luke live in Ann Arbor. Undeniably the hottest vocal sample of the year in Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" mashed with arguably 2011's anthem in Alesso's "Pressure" remix, is like putting LeBron and Kobe on the same team.

Alesso vs. Adele - Rollin' in the Pressure (Dj Óli Geir Reboot)

Based out of San Luis Obispo, California is 20 year-old DJ MAJK, or MacKenzie Johnson. He has blended together some of the hottest mash-up's I've heard all year. It looks as if he gets his inspiration from a lot of live DJ sets and then makes the mash-ups available to the public. He has great ideas and a knack for meshing different types of energy.

I'm sure most of you listened to and downloaded Avicii's exhilarating preview to the unnamed "ID2" that has been included into his sets recently. Brace yourselves once again because here's his latest edit (4:53 in length and 320kbps) to the forthcoming imperial enigma. Re-worked with a sweet 'n' sultry chord progression, melodic breakdown, and some drum kickers, this exuberant tune will indeed ignite your sixth sense. I doubt this is the final edit so stay tuned for more of Avicii's brilliance!

Yesterday was a glorious day for EDM as Dirty South's highly anticipated fall anthem "Walking Alone" was released on Beatport. To no surprise, it has cracked the top 10 in the progressive charts in less than 24 hours from the release day (Oct. 18th). Earlier this evening, however, was a huge disappointment with 2011's DJ Mag Top 100 placing Dirty South at a minuscule #93? Do the voters know that the poll should reflect DJ'ing skills (with productions important) and that Serbian-born and Australian native Dragan Roganovic, aka Dirty South, is one of the best DJs in the world? [I'm not going to get into his EZoo afterparty at Pacha.] If you haven't noticed from all of his previous productions and remixes, Dirty South does not fuck around. It should be automatic by now that when you see Dirty South, you should immediately think FUEGO. In my opinion, he has undoubtedly been a top 5 house producer/DJ for 2011.

Jeremy Olander's "Airsteala (Dirty South Remix)", which was released in February through his label PHAZING, was a progressive head's wet dream with Olander's soaring synths and Dirty South's reeling builds. In little over a month, Dirty South set the bar extremely high with his remix to Diddy-Dirty Money's "Coming Home feat. Skylar Grey (Dirty South Remix)", a versatile festival staple that everyone needed to have in their sets. It was the definition of house swagger and was(is) used as a peak-time smash or a closer -- there's nothing like hearing "LET'S GO" and then bouncing to that debilitating drop at a live show...NOTHING at all! Let's not forget about his unreal collaboration with Thomas Gold, another favorite producer of mine, on their face-melting and wonderfully crafted prog bomb "Alive feat. Kate Elsworth (Original Mix)" which dropped at the end of July. Simply tilt your head back for Kate Elsworth's longing vocals and then let the stampeding drop take over your system. The goosebumps don't stop there with Skylar Grey's "Invisible (Dirty South Remix)" which features a feel-good, synth-happy lead and was available at the end of August.

Okay, let's get to the finale now with "Walking Alone". It's one of those tracks where you have to hear it live to experience it. "Walking Alone" is truly a listener's sing-along jam with Dirty South's charging signature builds, warm melodies, and Erik Hecht's tender and reflective vocals. Not quite the energy as the legendary "Sweet Disposition (Axwell & Dirty South Remix)" but the sentiments are there.

Erik Hecht (Original Mix) You can show your support and buy it on Beatport here.

Laidback Luke comes to University of Michigan
When: This Wednesday (9/21)
Where: Necto Night Club in Ann Arbor
Tickets: They will sell out, so you should get them HERE for 25$ on WantTickets.

I hope you still have some gas left in the tank after an epic month with Avicii, L1ght, Zedd, Porter Robinson & Tiesto because you'll need be at full strength to hang with Dutch DJ/producer Laidback Luke. The man is best known for getting the party started and is an absolute lunatic on the turn tables. He's exploded the past couple years, having jumped up 10 spots in the rankings to land at #17 for DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs of 2010 and crushing eardrums of the masses as he headlined festivals like Electronic Daisy Festival (LA), Electric Zoo (NY) and Ultra (Miami). Laidback Luke's positon on the EDM spectrum is far from laid back, as he has spanned its peripheries ranging from electronic, dance, pop, hip-hop, dub, electro and progressive house. He's collaborated with house superpowers Swedish House Mafia (before they were actually called SHM) to drop "Get Dumb" in 2006 and 2008's anthem "Leave the World Behind". The Dutch zealot and owner of Mixmash Records has also worked individually with each member to drop "Be" (2007) and the legendary "Show Me Love feat. Robin S" (in 2009) with Steve Angello as well as "Chaa Chaa" with Sebastian Ingrosso. He's also worked with Kanye West's tour DJ and beat machine A-Trak to pump out a solid electronic track in "Shake It Down".

This year's track "Turbulence" with Lil Jon and Steve Aoki is a high octane, summer festival rager that has become a fan favorite. Other tracks soon to be released is the vocal mix to "Speak Up" which features Wynter Gordon, and "Natural Disaster" which features British emcee Example. I will never forget my first time seeing him at his superhero themed "Super You & Me" gig with Wolfgang Gartner at Pacha NYC. After five hours of non-stop dancing, I remember seeing Laidback Luke --who was dressed in a red/white striped shirt and hat with glasses-- pause to yell "Where's Waldo?!?!" like a megalomaniac! I haven't seen him since so this is definitely my most anticipated show of the semester for many reasons. We are extremely lucky to have someone of LBL's caliber to be DJ'ing on a casual Wednesday night rave.

So what's there to expect from this guy? Shit, I don't know, just expect the unexpected because he has a mad case of A.D.D. out there when he's mixing and mashing 4 decks at once. His sound has been rather difficult to describe for me partly because he encompasses everything that's awesome in electronic dance music. I'd say that he brings a fair balance of electro house elements with the structuring of a progressive house track, and hints of hip-hop & pop (especially for his remixing). His massive builds drive a sense of urgency throughout my body and then his punchy progressive drops convert that urgency into unwavering energy. His sound is truly innovative, bringing in fun and fresh details to any track as he leaves an intangible trail signature only to the Dutch enigma.

Here's a few questions to consider if you're on the fence about going. Hmm. Do I like fun? Do I like to dance? How much do I really like schoolwork? Listen/Download the tracks and it will all come to you.

Laidback Luke vs Example - Natural Disaster (Extended Vocal Mix) Here's one of his latest monsters, I'm hopeful he'll drop this atomic bomb Wednesday night. Along with Examples complementary vocals, the piano chords in the progression really craft this track into a wonderful natural disaster.

Laidback Luke - Speak Up (Instrumental Mix) LBL starts it up with some fighting raccoons and an extraterrestrial atmosphere to wake your brain up followed by his punchy siren drop reminiscent of "My G*O*D".

Laidback Luke, Lil Jon, Steve Aoki - Turbulence (Original Mix) This is what dubstep should sound like. Lil Jon is such a hooligan in this track!

Laidback Luke & Sander Van Doorn - Who's Wearing The Cap (Album Version) Here's his fresh out of oven smasher with fellow Dutchman Sander Van Doorn, which was released on SvD's album "Eleve11 - Beatport Version".

DANCEFLOOR DESTROYERS:

Literally, just off the press: Dada Life is hitting the decks at LAVO NY tonight (in another less than 21 hours), returning only a few months after their summer performance. Just because they're back so soon doesn't mean they haven't been busy! A new remix of Afrojack and R3hab's Prutata is here: Afrojack & R3hab - Prutataaa (Dada Life Remix) [PREVIEW] by R3HAB

This song was pretty much born to be remixed by DADA. If they didn't have their hand at remixing it soon, I would have been very surprised. Just a little preview now but definitely a club banger that will hit tonight at LAVO amongst others of their classics. Last time they played, they had a solid set that definitely didn't disappoint. As crowds have piled back into the city from the Hamptons, probably good idea to get there a little early before Dada comes on at 1. All the progressing electronic music acts have been packing fuller and fuller crowds.

On Dada Life's social media end, they're starting a contest on Facebook. When they reach 123456 fans, this is what they'll give away to 7 lucky fans:

1: T-Shirt

2: Pacifiers

3: Inflatable Champagnes

4: Real Bananas

5: Floppy Disks with Mystery Goodies

6: Pork or Veggie Sausages

Wonder where you'll find a computer that supports floppy disks nowadays, but worth adding your like to their page regardless. And if you're reading this at work and you currently hate your life because you have another 6 hours before you get out of work and rage (at LAVO, with Dada), then listen to their newly released September mix (link) in the meantime. Warning you might get some strange looks from your coworkers when you start bumping your head and jumping in your chair.

Who says you have to be sad about the first day of school? It seems like everyone dropped their syllabuses and ran into our local American Apparel and bought out everything possibly neon in anticipation of Avicii's arrival. Without fail, as Necto's (Ann Arbor) club lights highlighted the crowd, it all seemed a blur of neon shirts reflecting just as bright.

Avicii in the past year has developed a following amongst most major colleges with frat parties (and frat stars everywhere) dropping his tunes for pregames. Local bars both here and in New York City have been playing his tracks almost religiously. Especially after doing his IDentity tour with Kaskade, his popularity has soared through the roof. So it only makes sense that he should come to a college town to appease his followers in their thirst for electronic music.

When he came on around 12:30am, there was hardly a soul left by the bar - everyone had migrated to the dance floor, packed in pretty tight. He dropped tracks such as Pendulum's Island Part 1, Save the World by Swedish House Mafia, Sweet Dreams, Levels, and a solid setlist that kept the floor jumping till the last minute.

This night kicked off a series of electronic acts to come at Necto this fall, following up with Laidback Luke on Sept. 21st. Be sure to watch for announcements because this will the electro-fall Michigan has been waiting for!
