We are here on the Morning After Tour: Meet the Artist Series brought to you by Silverlake to Soho. This gives the fans an opportunity to get to know the artists and to get all access to their latest music. You can stay up to date on the entire series by clicking categories and then Morning After Tour: Meet the Artist.  Today I had the chance to talk with rapper Mike Stud for Part One of the series as he tells us about his rise, successes, future projects, and the f-u-n he is having in the rap game:

Frank: How did you get into rap music and did you have any influences on the way?

Mike Stud: My story is a lot different than most other artists on the tour. Basically I was a baseball player and I’ve been a baseball player my whole life and didn’t have any musical ties whatsoever up until about 5 months ago. So it has been real short lived, this all kind of just happened out of nowhere.  I did a few songs messing around when I was leaving Duke and then those songs ended up making it over to some R&B singer from Boston who had asked me to do a song with him. That song ended up hitting websites and blogs and when I got to Georgetown, from there it just really kind of snowballed.  That’s like a real abbreviated version of how it all happened but from there I just went with the flow and started making music more seriously so that’s kind of how it all happened.

Frank: How did you get the name “Mike Stud”?

Mike Stud: I was an athlete at Duke and I got there right in the wake of the Duke Lacrosse scandal. So there was an athletic department wide issued ban on facebook and public websites where people could look at your pictures. So all of the athletes, especially the baseball guys, came out with fake names so that we could still have a facebook. I went with Mike Stud five years ago and that’s been my facebook name for five years. So when I was asked to do a track with the R&B dude he asked me what my rap name was and I didn’t have one so I was just like, fuck it we’ll just go with Mike Stud and then from there that’s just kind of what we went with.

Frank: Your music video for your hit single college humor just reached 80,000 views in two months. Did you expect it to be as big as it is now?

Mike Stud: Nah man, no way. This music shit was all kind of just a joke and even making that song, that was kind of before it even got real. I had a blast making that song with my homies just fucking around, and I mean it’s just really a fun loving type track. After the reception that it got on the internet, I got the opportunity to shoot the video and that was a blast man. We shot it in D.C at Georgetown and basically we just shot a huge party scene and it turned out great. To just see the reception that the video has gotten has been crazy. Never in a million years would I have expected this. It’s been an honor man, it’s been fun.

Frank: So since you went to Duke, do you have any relations with Mike Posner and has he helped you out at all?

Mike Stud: Yeah I was actually pretty close with Mike all the way through Duke up until his senior year. He got out of there early because he was obviously getting pretty busy at that point. A real good dude and once again, the music shit happened after I left Duke,  so people were so confused by it, like how that fuck does that happen you know? I’ve talked to Mike two or three times in the last five months about what’s been going on and he’s been real cool man. Every time I talk to him he’s in another country.  But we just recently did the collaboration track “Gone in September” and what happened with that was we had to touch base with him concerning using his vocals and it turned out dope man.  There was a blend DJ [Lil Raskal] who blended it with a Big Tymers beat and I fucking love that track man.  We made a little impromptu video for it on the car ride home from another video shoot and just kind of went with it.  That one you can see on YouTube  but he’s been a real help man as much as he can anyway. He’s an international superstar, the dude’s fucking busy.

Frank: You’ve blown up so quickly and are already performing live. What was it like being on stage for the first time?

Mike Stud: I mean it was crazy. If you had told me 5 months ago that I was gonna be doing shows and that people were gonna come see me perform, I would have been like your nuts man. So the fact that that happened itself is just crazy.  But actually performing, I didn’t get nervous I was just having fun with it, and whoever was there could attest to that. I just like having fun out there. I really enjoy it and I feel like I’m good at it.  It’s been awesome man, I’ve done four shows and they have all been successful and really fun.  I feel like they have gone smoothly for the most part, it’s just really fun and I enjoy being able to perform.

Frank:  Do you have any upcoming projects in store that you could tell us a little bit about?

Mike Stud: Yeah my next project is probably the thing that I’m most excited about.  I haven’t been this excited about anything since I’ve been doing music. It’s a track that is totally different from anything I’ve ever done. It’s not a party track, it’s not frat rap, it’s something that is very personal to me and that has a lot to do with my story and my situation.  Also I am not leaking this song; I’m dropping it with the official music video simultaneously.  So I’m really excited, same editor, same director [Paddy Quinn] that shot the video for College Humor and we’ve just got the dopest shots in this new video, I’m just so pumped about it. I got a collab done that I really haven’t told anyone about yet, but I’m about to drop it soon and it’s with my homie, Loggy and he dropped a great verse on it. It’s a perfect collab for the song because we’re both athletes and both had the same type of falling into hip hop.  It’s really fitting and I feel like people are gonna dig it big time.

Frank: So you heard it here first, the Loggy-Mike Stud collab coming soon. What are your expectations for being on the Morning After Tour?

Mike Stud:  I’m just super excited man. As I find out what stops I’m on, I’ll be releasing them and making sure everyone knows about it, but I’m just super excited to be part of that lineup.  That’s hands down the best summer lineup of up and coming talent that you can find.  Every artist on the list are ones that were pegged as up and coming, and are ones that are going to be rising fast.  I’m really excited to be a part of it and to do some stops.  I’m pumped man.

Adventure Club is a Dubstep Duo hailing from Montreal.

Formed in early 2011, Adventure Club is a production ouftit / dj duo birthed by local musicians Christian Srigley & Leighton James.

After a blitz in the studio, they've released 5 tracks with an Upcoming EP to hit the scene shortly. With remixes ranging from 1950's classics, post-hardcore rock to the sweet electronic sounds of today.

]]> As many of you know this past weekend, we've been hammering out the new version of vokoder and a mobile version for iPhone, Android, and Blackberry. The new version of the site is dropping late this week / early next week, so keep checking back for updates and also check out the updated pluURL site!

During this weekend, myself and my partner in crime vishnu. While Vishnu focused on our mobile applications, I spent each night this weekend up until 5/6 AM building a new API for Vokoder FM, which served as the inspiration for this playlist. You know when it gets so late you feel like you're either cracked out and/or black out drunk.... just go with it lol, anyway to keep myself up I put this little playlist together for ya'll to enjoy.

I had to kick it off with an old 80's favorite 99 Red ballons from Nena, then some new favorites Chiddy Bang and Mike Posner. Finally topped it off with a set of tracks from the 8-bit collective
